Intuit sunsets its software after 3 years, so all QB 2009 versions will stop being supported by them sometime this year.  No official announcement has been made yet but sunsets usually occur on 5/31,  

Once the software is no longer supported, several features stop working: Payroll, Online Banking, Merchant Services, and Form & Report email capability.

In the spirit of starting the new year on the right foot, give consideration to Intuit's online backup service for your QuickBooks files.  Creating an on-site backup is not going to be useful in the event of a flood, fire, theft, virus, etc. which damages both your main file and backup.  Better yet, the online backup will occur daily without any actions needed on your end.  (Who can say in all honestly they have a more fool-proof process?)
